Paninis and a plan...

Our first semi-organized meeting was held at Lauren's apartment on Nov. 2, 2008 over a "make your own panini" sandwich. Husbands were invited and somewhat-mocked the "finer things" idea, but despite the jokes, we decided to give it a whirl and see what would come of it. The plan of attack would be to rotate hosts each month and keep costs minimal. The idea for the month was completely up to the imagination and creativity of the host. So with that, creative juices started to flow, ideas were tossed out and paninis were eaten...

Where it all began...

We, as in "The Finer Things", was an idea for a club born out of the not-so "finer" show, The Office. Not that we don't enjoy the show, but I am not sure if it would qualify as "cultural", "sophisticated" and of "great excellence." Although that is debatable, I will choose to not debate that here...

Our group of 12+ girls get together once a month to take part in something somewhat cultural and perhaps somewhat overlooked by our generation. Living in Charleston, SC offers many opportunites to experience something "finer" but rarely do we act on the annual happenings. This is where the group comes in...we encourage each other to go to a local food and wine tasting, to visit one of the many historical plantations, to attend a festival, to learn a new craft, to go to plays...and the list goes on.

We all too often fall into a "routine" and forget that it is fun to learn something new and step outside of our box of comfort. Do we have to be the best at it? Absolutely not, but we may be surprised that one of the experiences finds its way into our own families and traditions.
